How do we distinguish stressed from unstressed syllables: intensity, pitch variation, vowel quality and duration. Word stress guidelines: long words, longer words, prefix words, stress on word endings, stress on syllable preceding ending.
Recognize where the stress falls depending on the word. Use stress patterns (patterns of stressed and unstressed syllables) to achieve the correct pronunciation of different words.
