Algunos verbos si los acompañas con otro verbo conjugado en la forma infinitiva o el gerundio tienen el mismo significado, sin embargo, otros verbos tendrán un diferente significado.

prefer | I prefer to stay at home sometimes in the weekend. | I prefer staying at home sometimes in the weekend. |
Verb: forget
With infinite: Don’t forget to send me that email please. (refiriéndose al futuro)
With gerund: I forgot packing my passport when I was travelling. (refiriéndose al pasado)
Verb: go on
With infinite: You can go on to work on the next project when you are finished. (cambia el trabajo por otra actividad)
With gerund: You go on working on this project until you are finished. (continúa trabajando)
Verb: regret
With infinite: We regret to inform you that the flight has been delayed. (entregando malas noticias)
With gerund: I regret informing her about her flight. (muestra tristeza acerca de algo que ha sucedido)
