What would you do if you were me?

Emily: Thanks! And what about your family? How are your parents and siblings doing?
Thomas: They’re doing good*. My parents have just retired and they’re also planning on traveling the world. My sister is finishing high school this year and my brother is going to get married next year.
Emily: Wow! I’m glad they are all doing well. Speaking of marriage: when are you planning on proposing to Josy? Hahaha
Thomas: Why do I have to propose to her? She could propose to me. Hey, would you pass me the sugar, please?
Emily: Yep, here you are. But seriously, how are you guys doing?
Thomas: All good, we still love each other. We’ve had ups and downs, like every relationship. There are no perfect relationships, are there?
Emily: Absolutely! If you guys are sure you want to spend your lives together, you will overcome any obstacles.
Thomas: That’s true. However, I’d like you to give me some advice on something. You’ve known me for a long time.
Emily: Sure, what is it?
Thomas: Josy and I have been talking about marriage. I think we should move in before getting married, but she doesn’t want to do that. What would you do if you were me?
Emily: If I were you, I would ask her why she doesn’t want to move in first. Have you asked her?
Thomas: I have. She says it’s essentially the same thing, so why not make it official?
Emily: I see. Well, and why don’t you want to do it?
Thomas: I think we can learn about each other and ourselves once we start living together. I often think to myself: what if things change and we don’t understand each other? What if we got married and then hated living together?
Emily: I see your point as well. If I were you, I would talk to her and come up with things that I would like or wouldn’t like her to do. If there are some things you guys think you can handle, why not get married? But if there are things you might not be happy with, it would be better to just move in and see how things work. Either way, I know you love each other and you will make the right choice.
Thomas: I hope so! I don’t want us to make wrong decisions.
Emily: Do you think she will only be in the relationship if you guys get married?
Thomas: I hope not! We enjoy each other’s company and we love each other. I wouldn’t like this to end our relationship.
Emily: Talk to her, be honest. You should give yourselves one week’s vacation and discuss these things calmly.
Thomas: Yeah! Actually, my manager said I needed to request some time off, so I did. He says I don’t take care of my health, but I do.
Emily: He’s right, you work a lot!
Thomas: I can work a little too much sometimes. Anyways, I talked to human talent, and I’m giving myself some time off to think about our relationship and make the right decision.
Emily: I know you guys will. Well, it’s time for me to head home. It’s been so nice talking to you.
Thomas: It has! We can meet up next week sometime and have lunch together.
Emily: Sounds like a good idea. Let’s keep in touch.
Thomas: Yeah, have a good one!

Note: The word “well” should be used here instead of “good”. However, in spoken English, it’s very common to find this type of sentence.
