Diferencias en el uso de advise, recommend y suggest

Puedes dar recomendaciones utilizando las palabras “advise”, “recommend” y “suggest”. Existen algunas diferencias entre ellas:

- Advise:

• Es la más formal de estas tres palabras.
• Es utilizada por consejeros, oficiales, profesores o doctores.

- Recommend:

• Suele utilizarse para hablar de experiencias personales.

- Suggest:

• Es la más informal de las tres palabras.
• Se utiliza para expresar una opinión.

Cómo usar advise, recommend y suggest

Este grupo de palabras puede utilizarse:

Seguido de un sustantivo:

• The professor advised rest before the exam.
• Her uncle recommended the deli around the corner
• Her tailor suggested a long dress for her wedding.

Seguido de un gerundio:

• Lawyers advise against marrying without a prenup.
• The agent recommends going around the city.
• The nurse suggested using a facemask when visiting crowded places.

Seguido de una cláusula:

• The board advises we terminate the contract today.
• Ramsay recommended that she cook with an apron on.
• The call center agent suggests they cancel the card immediately.

Seguido de un pronombre:

• The coach advised us to keep our energies on the offense.
• Her father recommended to start a business.
• Joane suggested to arrive early.

TIP: No confundas Advise con Advice. Advise es un verbo para dar recomendaciones. Advice es un sustantivo que se refiere a opiniones o información dadas o recibidas.
